BROWN’S RANCH TRAILHEAD FAMILY PICTURES
As a Scottsdale family photographer my favorite feature of the Scottsdale landscape has to be these huge boulders, which is why I love Brown’s Ranch Trailhead for family pictures.
Brown’s Ranch Trailhead is a part of the McDowell Sonoran Preserve which means there are literally MILES of trails, all with stunning desert landscapes. For this session, we chose to hang out on this boulder covered hillside at the back of the main parking lot.
What you need to know
There is no fee to park or hike (or take pictures) at Brown’s Ranch Trailhead. That means this location is FREE. However it is a little outside my regular service area so expect at least an hour of additional travel time added on to your session fee ($20).
There is a gate at the front of the park that is closed promptly at sunset so we may want to start your session a little earlier than my standard hour before sunset to make sure we have plenty of time and don’t get locked in.
The landscape is neutral with the boulders giving an extra dose of browns, especially in the fall/winter when the greenery is also a little brown. I recommend adding pops of color to your wardrobe, like blue, green, pink, or yellow, for contrast and added interest.
